Women Empowerment by Jesus
The whole of humanity fell under the
curse the moment Eve bit the apple in the Eden Garden. Between Adam and Eve, the
very first curse fell upon Eve.
“I will surely multiply your pain
in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be
contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you” Genesis 3:16.
Through the ages women bore the
brunt of this curse. With pain she gave birth to her children. Motherhood, her
greatest desire, came at a huge price. Most of her life, most of women lived
subservient to men. Some of them even surrendered to the dismal profession of
pleasing men through prostitution for a living against her own wishes. A woman
chooses prostitution as a profession only when she has no other choice for a living.
Will this be the condition of
women forever? No not all. So, when did things begin to change?
Once Jews brought a woman caught
in adultery before Jesus. Prostitution as a profession suffered the worst of human
atrocities in the days of Jesus as the very men who exploited her wanted to
stone her to death misquoting the Law of Moses which says, “If a man commits
adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress
shall surely be put to death” (Leviticus 20:10). Is there a condition worse
than this for a human being?
But what did Jesus do here?
He declared that only those who had
not sinned may stone her (John 8:7). Expectedly there was none who qualified to
stone her. Even those who exploited her slipped away with a deep sense of guilt
and shame.
When everyone left the spot,
Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they?” Jesus proved to her
that she is set free from the humiliation of the world forever. Has none condemned
you? (John 8:10), Jesus asked her tenderly. No one Lord, she replied holding
her head high and addressing him as the Lord of her life. “Nor do I condemn you, go and now on sin no
more” (John 8:11). Jesus made a historic proclamation which reversed the
curse from Genesis on women forever.
What a grand proclamation!! Women
are free from condemnation that held them in curse forever. She has been
restored to her Edenic status in God’s Kingdom. Now she can live in full
freedom and victory through faith in Jesus for there is no condemnation for
those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).

#Jesus and the woman caught in adultery
Though this is a commendable attempt to show that this was a moment when Jesus redeemed all women from the "curse" which fell on them from the Fall, I'm afraid that it suffers from a flawed understanding of salvation. Jesus' death on the cross is what saved from the curse. This story is meant to highlight the hypocrisy involved in condemning a women for adultery, something that can only happen when man and women sin together!
