Faith and Unbelief can co-exist, so lets kill the unbelief

Faith and Unbelief go hand-in-hand if unbelief remains unchecked. Many believers fall into this habit of living in faith and unbelief at the same time without being aware of it. This is a state in faith life which can turn a believer ineffective in their faith journey. This is a trick played by Satan from the days of Jesus where he keeps a person free from guilt of not having faith yet fills him or her with unbelief for a given situation.

Jairus came to meet Jesus and pleaded with him saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her that she may be healed, and she will live”. So, Jesus went with him (Mark 5:23, 24). It is clear that Jairus had full conviction that Jesus could heal her even from the point of dying. So, he was a man of extraordinary faith. Jesus reciprocated to his faith by deciding to go to his house. The decision of Jesus to go with him is enough to conclude that the life of his daughter is completely taken care of.

However, a bit later “someone” came rushing frantically from the ruler of the synagogue’s house and said, “Your daughter is dead, Why trouble the Teacher any further? (Mark 5:35). What the messenger meant was, it was all over, even Jesus cannot do much, so let Jesus go back and trouble him no more.

Please note, the moment Jesus turned his steps towards Jairus’ house, “someone” comes rushing with bad news. This “someone” is a person used by satan timely to fill you with unbelief for the given situation.

Look what Jesus did. As soon as Jesus heard this expression (of unbelief), he said,

Do not fear, only believe (Mark 5:36)

Before this bad news could fill Jairus with unbelief, Jesus acted. He allowed no time for the seeds of unbelief settle in Jairus’ mind though he was a firm believer of Jesus.

We must identify who is this “someone” in our lives in our faith journey. It could be a colleague, neighbor, TV news, headlines, social media or past experience that can fill us with unbelief. We might believe in the whole Bible, all miracles done by Jesus, resurrection of Jesus, yet if possessed by unbelief for a given situation, we would not be able to apply our mustard seed faith. We might believe everything from Genesis to Revelation yet be struggling in unbelief for a pain in the foot as we did not keep away the intrusions of unbelief time to time into our mind.

So next time when unbelief comes over, a believer must repeat what Jesus said,

Do not fear (do not trust in the current sources of unbelief),

 only believe (in Jesus).

Now the fear would fade away. You are back on course in the faith life.
