Theory Vs Truth

Science is full of theories. Dictionary defines theory as an explanation of how things work. To cite an example, the famous chemist Dalton said in his theory of atoms that an atom is indivisible. That was Dalton's explanation of an atom. Today this theory is taken out of the text books. An atom is considered to be having subatomic particles. This theory would hold till it is proven otherwise. 


So a theory may or may not be true and is expected to lead us to the truth. 


Lets look at some of the famous theories such as  Theory of gravity, Theory of relativity, Theory of evolution...and so forth. We do not call them the truth of gravity, truth of relativity or truth of evolution. New observations, findings, discoveries or even new theories could correct them or even prove them wrong. Because of their immense popularity they are often mistaken for truths. They are still theories and not the truth yet. Science is a progressive subject and has no eternal theories. `


With the phenomenal advancement in practical science, today we have advanced telescopes, microscopes, detectors, lab equipment. Artificial intelligence has propelled science to a higher level of analytical ability. Science is in a much better position to challenge itself and the day is not far off when it will have to change its syllabus every year because of its own advanced capabilities.   


With scientific capabilities peaking further, the day would even arrive when science would be forced to change its views every day. What you declare at sunrise could be proven wrong by sunset. Science would have become its own worst enemy.


Bible is not a book of theories. Jesus did not come to present a theory of salvation. He declared I am the Way, the Truth, and the Salvation (John 14:6). Bible does not use the term theory and science does not use the term truth for both has to take the position they hold.  


Jesus said, " Heavens and the earth will pass away, but my words will remain forever" (Mathew 24:25) because He is the truth, nothing but the truth. A truth does not need to be proven through a series of theories. It should be embraced in faith.

    Very thought-provoking. Science is a way to express mans desire to know the ways of God. God is The Master Designer and created everything we see by The Power of His Word. Man puts labels of 'laws' in an attempt to learn these.

    Man is trying fit a supernatural God into natural laws. This is going to be a herculean task.

Answer to the famous query of Jesus, which is easier, to heal the sick or forgive the sins?

  One of those days, Jesus was preaching. A great crowd surrounded the house where he preached from. The pharisees and teachers of the law came from far and wide to hear him, even from Jerusalem. The power of the Lord was with him to heal (Luke 5:17). Suddenly four men lowered a paralyzed man through the roof and landed him in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said, "Man, your sins are forgiven." The scribes and the teachers of the law were shocked to the core. According to them, sins could only be forgiven by God and one could obtain it only by sacrificing an animal as a sin offering in the temple. The paralyzed man had not even moved a finger to secure his forgiveness. So they declared this act of Jesus as sheer blasphemy.
