Mind, A Bridge Between Flesh and Spirit (A Mathematical Illustration)

Mind is a bridge between flesh and Spirit. It is important to understand this to gain an insight into many Biblical Truths. Mind chooses to be either with the flesh or the Spirit of God out of its free will.

The flesh is best impacted when the mind chooses to be with the Spirit of Jesus. This could be best explained through the model of a weighing balance.

Let’s imagine that we have placed the flesh, mind and Spirit on a weighing balance with flesh of the left and and the Sprit on the right. The mind is placed in the middle. Here the balance would be even as the weights are spread equally on both sides.

Case 1 (Mind is with the Spirit)

 Here Mind (10) + Spirit (10) = Flesh (20)

When mind chooses to be with the Spirit of Jesus, the flesh manifests the fruits of the Spirit such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22). The 20 units of flesh represent the manifestation of all the Biblical blessings in flesh when mind is rooted in the Spirit of Jesus.

Case 2 (Mind is with the flesh)

Mind (10) + Flesh (0) = Spirit (10)

When the mind moves closer and closer to the flesh, the flesh has to shrink in its spiritual units to maintain the balance. When mind merges with the flesh it is deep into sin and the spiritual mass of flesh reduces to zero.

Paul explains this well in his famous letter to Romans. Wage of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Acts of the sinful nature are sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissentions, factions, envy, drunkenness, orgies and the like. When mind is fully rooted in flesh, the flesh dies a spiritual death.

Paul makes it further clear in the following scripture.

To set the mind on flesh is death, but to set the mind on Spirit is life and peace. (Romans 8:6)

If you live according to the sinful nature, you will die. If by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. (Romans 8: 13 – 14)

Jesus said, Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness (Spirit) and all these things shall be added unto you (in flesh). (Mathew 6:33)

So let our mind be focused on the Spirit (Word of God), so that the flesh would flourish. Keep the focus out of flesh. Keep the focus on Jesus.
